Oriental and Persian Rug Washing Process

After the initial assessment rugs will have all the damaging grit and soil removed with our tumble dusting system. The tumble duster slowly rotates in alternate directions for a pre-determined length of time.  The movement of the rugs inside the duster causes the pile to open in a way that effectively removes deeply embedded soil and grit.  Rugs are then vacuumed on both sides.

All colours are tested for colour-fastness.

A cold, acid pH solution is applied to both sides to stabilize dyes while rinsing out any existing chemical residues.  This solution is then rinsed with cold, softened water.

A cold, mild, low pH natural cleaning solution is applied. Soft brushes gently work the solution deep into the fibres loosening embedded soil. This process is repeated on the back of the rug also.

Cold softened water is then used to completely flush the cleaning solution and soil from the rug. Flushing is repeated until the water runs clear.

Rugs are hung to dry with the aid of commercial air movers and dehumidifiers.
