Persian Tabriz
Medallion layouts, similar to the one shown here, are one of the most common designs in oriental rugs and carpets. The main field is dominated by a single large medallion. The Persian Tabriz in the image has a pendant at each end of the medallion, which is another typical design element. Occasionally secondary medallions are positioned in all four corners. In the so-called four and one arrangement, the four secondary medallions are presented whole and are arranged near the corners as if rotating around the central medallion. In another variation, known as the superimposed medallion layout, a row of two or more medallions extends the length of the field. The medallions can be the same or of differing sizes.
