The image shows a fantastic, high knot count Persian Nain – rug cleaning that was carried out for a customer in Ascot. Nain is a city in central Iran, very close to Isfahan. The city of Nain started out producing Isfahan rugs, and it wasn’t until the 1930s when it started to weave its own designs. Even today, Nain rugs resemble Isfahan rugs quite closely in design. Nain carpets and rugs usually have a knot count of about 300 knots per square inch. The designs are all over floral with incredibly fine, precise detail, woven from a design in a workshop. The rugs tend to be woven on a cotton foundation with the majority of the pile being wool. Silk is very often used as a detailing feature, and can make the main field ‘sparkle’ as it catches the light.
