Creating a cartoon
Town, city or workshop rugs, as they are known, are generally created from a cartoon. The designer is therefore responsible for the overall appearance of the finished product. The weaver has less influence over the final outcome, although results can be determined according to the skill and experience of the weaver. Workshop productions are easily distinguished when compared to tribal or village weavings. The designs are usually symmetrical with finely woven curves which are even and intricately produced. The composition is perfectly balanced and matching motifs are produced to an exacting size.
