Severe Moth Infestation
Moths are becoming more and more common from year to year. They like nothing better than a soiled woollen rug to destroy. It’s the small larvae cases that cause the damage by slowly eating away at the wool. They are attracted to dirty rugs, especially ones contaminated with pet urine. The wool is nourishing and an appealing source of food. Undisturbed, the larvae can reside within the fibres for up to three years before developing into an adult. During this time they can cause a huge amount of damage. Regular vacuuming and occasional professional washing will certainly deter them. It’s especially important to vacuum the backs of your rugs, as the moths will quite happily eat way at the wool from underneath for months without being noticed, causing expensive to repair damage.
