Chinese rugs are still one of the most popular and common rugs that we see come in our facility for professional rug cleaning. These rugs are very well made with a thick, dense, luxurious pile that provides comfort, warmth and style to any room. Chinese rugs are very difficult to find available to purchase now, whereas they used to be commonplace in department stores many years ago. It is testament to the quality of construction as to why there are so many still in circulation. Most of the Chinese rugs we see for cleaning are about twenty to thirty years old, and showing very little signs of wear.
Super wash or 90 line as they are also known tend to have a sheen to the pile. This is created immediately after the weaving process by washing the rug in a bleach. The washing will smooth the cuticles of the wool causing the light to reflect, and in turn giving the rugs an almost silky appearance, especially when looking along the direction of the pile. When viewing the rug from the opposite direction, dark saturated colours will be noticeable. This chemical washing can compromise the dyes, making them susceptible to colour change if using high pH cleaning solutions, so for this reason alone, professional rug cleaning is advised.
